“I grew up in a small town in North Carolina where there was one dance studio and one stop light. Through the help of my supportive parents and amazing dance teachers and with a lot of hard work and determination, I made my way to New York City where I became a Radio City Rockette. Now living in Blowing Rock, NC, I desire to give back to this community what I've learned through my experiences as a professional dancer. For the past 15 years I've directed a non-profit organization called Project Dance. Our aim is to positively impact culture through artistic integrity. Our desire is to see every dancer nurtured to their fullest human potential for their own well being and their contribution to the world by offering training, education, and performance opportunities for dancers worldwide who desire to dance with integrity to inspire. While this project takes me all over the world sharing the love of dance to thousands in cities like Hong Kong, Toronto, Paris, Sydney, Penang, London, New York, Houston and Jerusalem; I now seek to encourage dancers in my own backyard. The Carolina Snowbelles is a brand new program area for Project Dance and my hope is to equip local dancers with the skills needed to succeed."
A native of North Carolina, Cheryl got her start at the local dance studio. Her first professional job was at a Opryland USA in Nashville and then she worked on a cruise ship, moved to New York City and landed a job in Japan where she worked at Tokyo Disneyland in a stage show called One Man's Dream where she danced as Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty.
After traveling the world performing, she settled down with the Rockettes in New York where she enjoyed performing at Radio City Music Hall for 15 years. Her duties included dance captain, assistant choreographer, and spokesperson for nationally televised appearances including one-on-one interviews with Katie Couric, Diane Sawyer, and Larry King. She was the co-choreographer for Kick Into Fitness and choreographer for Christmas Across America promotional tours, The Yankee Pennant Parade, and The Rockefeller Christmas Tree Lighting Television Special for NBC. Her 2 favorite Rockette memories are dancing for the President of the United States in Washington DC and the many Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parades.
Other career credits include the Broadway National Tour of Crazy For You, European Tour of 42ND Street, and the Broadway benefit to the stars of Mack and Mable, starring Jerry Herman and Donna McKechnie. She has also enjoyed working with a jazz company called Walkerdance under the direction of Tony Award Winner, Chet Walker. Cheryl is the Executive Director for The Project Dance Foundation (www.projectdance.com) and enjoys networking dancers together in community and equipping them for their next step in dance.
